Emmerdale viewers were surprised to see little Dotty Thomas on ITV last month and then again this week, and it is believed to be her first on-screen appearance in about two years. five
Emmerdale fans have long joked about how Dotty Thomas always seems to be locked in her room on ITV.
For the past two years, her mother Laurel Thomas has frequently mentioned her 5-year-old daughter and called her in the house.
But Dotty is never present in the scenes and always seems to be in her room, or somewhere with a loved one.
This week, viewers were surprised when Dotty returned to screens for the first time in what fans believe is about two years.
That said, she did actually appear on the show last month, in a scene with her brother Arthur.
While actress Tilly-Rue Foster has played the role since 2016, when the character was born, she has been significantly missing for a while – with one of her last known scenes on the show. was in May 2020, when a fire broke out that almost killed her.
When filming was halted in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were some major changes to the set and filming as it restarted.
One important change is that children have not returned to the movies for a long time, with a limited number of actors only allowed to go there at any one time.
As things started to get easier and restrictions lifted, filming got back to normal a bit, and just this year, many child stars have returned to the set.
Quirky children’s characters appeared a year ago, but most of the time they just appear on screen.
From staying with loved ones to staying in their room, or playing somewhere, the soap has found many ways to explain why they weren’t in the scenes.
It became a little joke with fans, who announced characters like Dotty would forever be in their rooms.
So when the character returned this week after a long time, fans were surprised – and the bigger shock came when they realized how much she’s grown.
The actress who plays Dotty has matured a lot and that was certainly noticed by fans racing to Twitter to share their shock.
One viewer commented: “Well there isn’t a growing boom in #emmerdale.. first Arthur is now Dotty… what do they feed them?”
Another concurred: “What have they been feeding the kids for the last 2 years – first Arthur now Dotty has skyrocketed.”
A third fan added: “Dotty is so big now”, as a fourth said: “It’s all grown-up Dotty.”
The comments also continued to appear, with another viewer tweeting: “When did Dotty get so big?” while another noted: “Almost 2 years since she last appeared.”
