Emmerdale: Louise Jameson stars as Mary, Rhona’s mother

Emmerdale fans were left stunned during Tuesday night’s episode, when a very familiar face appeared.

British actress Louise Jameson comes to Dales as Mary, Rhona Goskirk’s mother – and viewers recognize her immediately.

Louise starred in EastEnders from 1998 to 2000 as Rosa di Marco and was drawn into a number of dramatic storylines.

Unfortunately, her character won’t be able to return to Walford when Rosa’s off-screen death in 2002, coincides with her son Beppe leaving Albert Square – so Louise switched to ITV instead.

Her first scene is where she complains to Rhona (Zoe Henry) about the mattress she slept on the night before.

“You still haven’t said how long you’ll be staying?” Rhona asked Mary, but she dodged the question completely.

Mary then began to blast Rhona’s baking skills as a child and told her, “What a strange child you are.”

Rhona later admitted that she wasn’t sure why her mother showed up in the village, but said: “I’m going to find out.”

In January it was confirmed that 70-year-old Louise would join Emmerdale.

Described as a “nonsense” character, Mary has a strained relationship with her daughter because Rhona believes she can never live up to her mother’s high expectations.

Some Emmerdale viewers were shocked to see a former EastEnders actress and on their screens and took to Twitter to comment.

“Oh! Exciting from Eastenders! #Emmerdale,” one person tweeted.

Another said: “Ooooh Louise Jameson on Emmerdale!! #drWho #emmerdale.”

Another joked: “Rosa Di Marco needs a yorkshire accent #emmerdale.”

And a Wednesday viewer posted: “does this mean rhona is bepe dimarco’s sister? #Emmerdale.”
