Emmerdale fans ‘unmask’ Leyla and Suzy’s secret past after tense scenes

Emmerdale: Leyla confronts Suzy for a surprise appearance

Emmerdale fans are sure they’ve been buzzing about what Leyla Harding is hiding – and how she’s actually connected to newcomer Suzy Merton.

She clashed with Suzy during scenes on Thursday night, when she urged her to leave and never return – fearing she would reveal her secret in the village.

Despite Suzy’s reassurance that this wouldn’t happen, Leyla seemed unconvinced as they discussed how they knew each other.

It’s clear that the two are keeping it a secret how exactly they know each other, with Suzy revealing they’ve been friends for years – while Leyla’s reaction suggests there’s more to it.

Now, fans are predicting that the couple may have been lovers in the past or that they share a family relationship.

Leyla runs into her secret friend Suzy who is dating Vanessa Woodfield in a pub, and things quickly get pretty awkward.

Taking to Twitter as footage unfolded, viewers questioned what the pair were hiding – as Suzy hinted they met two weeks ago, around the time Leyla was seen making a phone call hard to understand.

One fan said: “I bet Leyla and Suzy slept together and it’s a secret.”

Another concurred: “I wonder if leyla and suzie developed feelings at some point,” adding a third, adding: “#Emmerdale implies Leyla and Suzy used to have an affair?”

A fourth fan tweeted: “Wait a minute… is Leyla really Suzy’s ex??? Because that’s the vibe, huns,” as another commented, “Leyla and Susie definitely had it.”

Earlier in the year, Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw hinted that something big was standing in the way of the character.

She told the press: “Leyla has a big storyline coming out in 2022. We’ve seen her be a huge support to Liam having lost his daughter Leanna but it seems like All are the same?”

“Is Leyla really coping as well as she seems or is there a little more going on there that we’ll explore?”

It comes as soap boss Kate Brooks promises big “branches” ahead for characters in the fallout leading to Meena’s exit.

One central character is Leyla, with Kate hinting that there’s a “massive” backstory for her and Liam.

She told The Mirror and other press: “This woman is ravaging the village and destroying people’s lives, Liam has lost her daughter, Manpreet… she hasn’t been through what in 12 years. last month?

“So I think we were very conscious of not just tying it in a very neat bow and saying it’s okay, now that Meena is out of the village and out of the village, let’s move on.

“It’s not what was going to happen or how we made it. There’s a big story on the table for Liam and Leyla, it’s a result of what went down with Leanna and everything, there are things. major ramifications for Charles and Manpreet.”
