Emmerdale fans were left in shock after Charity Dingle and Vanessa Woodfield reopened the door to a possible romance this week.
The former couple, played by Emma Atkins and Michelle Hardwick in the ITV drama, split two years ago after Charity cheated on her.
The pair had previously estranged since Vanessa returned to the village and the two have moved on to separate relationships.
Charity faced more pressing issues later in the year with the launch of The Woolpack, which she currently co-owns with son Ryan Stocks.
But the reopening didn’t go as planned, as food deliveries didn’t go as planned and rat infestation forced Liv and Vinny to postpone their wedding reception.
After Dingles turned on Charity and attempted to sabotage that day, the feud took on a new level when Charity grabbed some of Lydia’s homemade potato salad and threw it at Chas.
Later, Charity discovers it was Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) who set up a fountain at the Village Hall to get revenge on Dingles and kicked him out of the tavern.
The charity was devastated at the end of the overcast day, but a surprise visit from Vanessa proves to be just the thing to cheer her up.
Vanessa comforted her and as the two laughed and looked back on their wonderful time together, they shared a shockingly romantic moment.
Vanessa leaned in for a kiss, before almost immediately pulling away. While Charity admits she has long wanted reconciliation, Vanessa insists she made a mistake and ran away.
ITV revealed that the close kiss will continue to have a ripple effect in the soap next week.
While Vanessa continues to despise their close kiss, Charity tries to find a glimmer of hope next week on Emmerdale.
Meanwhile, Charity’s love interest, Mack mulled over Vanessa’s advice and decided to prepare an act of great commitment to win Charity back.
But his plans and hopes and rekindling their romance backfire when he tells Charity he wants them to live together.
Charity is blinded by Mack’s plan to move in, as she silently struggles to get Vanessa out of her mind after their romantic moment.
When she can’t commit to living together, Mackenzie threatens to move back to Scotland – will he be serious about leaving the village when their relationship becomes fractured?
Later, Charity was shocked to learn that Mack wasn’t joking with his threat and that he was actually leaving the village.
The next day, Paddy discovers tension between Vanessa and Charity as the pair try to keep their eyes off each other as their romantic chemistry continues to build.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30 p.m. on ITV.
