Emmerdale: Ned Porteous as Joseph Tate in 2018

Emmerdale star Joe Tate looks very different as he enjoys a long road trip in the US with his beautiful girlfriend.

Ned Porteous, 27, who played the troubled character from 2017 to 2018, looked almost unrecognizable in the split second he was uploading to social media, as he walked along the west coast of the United States with her partner Sophia.

The loving couple have visited popular attractions like Napa Valley and Yosemite National Park in California, as well as the iconic Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Sharing a snap of the holiday on Instagram, Ned revealed his clean look has been replaced with a matted beard as he posed next to his pouty girlfriend.

“SanFran,” he simply captioned.

His former co-star Michael Parr, who plays Ross Barton in the ITV drama, commented on the meme, joking: “Your beard is fake.”

“Love the beard, Ned,” one of his 108,000 followers wrote.

“Boys with beards,” another cheekily added, as others complimented Ned on his choice of vacation destination, with some envious of his travels.

Some fans fear his trip to America will hinder any possibility of him returning to Emmerdale.

Ned’s character Joe was apparently killed off in 2018, but it was revealed he was in fact living abroad after a failed attempt to get revenge on Charity Dingle.

Since leaving the Yorkshire countryside, Ned has been spotted in other popular shows, including the Netflix drama Bridgerton, alongside Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page.

He played Lord Wetherby in season one of the show racy, and he was the love interest of Sir Henry Granville, and the duo had a long illicit relationship.

He appeared in three episodes, and his character was not reimagined in the second season, but focused on the relationship between Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and Kate.
