Duncan Wood, star of ITV News’ Calendar, has made the decision to leave the show after nearly two decades, after an incredible 32 years of a career at a broadcaster.

Taking to Twitter, Duncan announced: “It’s a wrap! A difficult decision but I have thought long and hard. Thank you ITV for 32 years of roller coaster live TV and the amazing team ITV Calendar, I will miss you guys so much! ”

Soap star Mark, who has played Marlon Dingle since 1996, wrote a sweet farewell letter to Duncan following the news.

Mark was one of the first to join the comments section as he wrote: “Oh Duncan!!! You are a legend. I’m sad to hear this, but I’m so glad I’ve known you all these years and I’ll miss bumping into you around the building.

“You have always been so nice and supportive and excellent in your work. Good luck in everything, friend x. ”

Duncan later responded to Mark, writing: “Thank you so much Mark, it was great to work with you and the Emmerdale gang who are the best in the business. Hope to catch up soon x. ”

Many of Duncan’s ITV co-stars mingled with their own tributes, with regional ITV News presenter Nick Smith writing: “So sorry to see you gone, and I know people across Yorkshire, Lincs and more will miss you so much.

Greg Scott added: “No Duncs! An older TV – sorry – high end TV [star] bow when there is still so much to offer. Will you go somewhere else? Or crochet… on a rocking chair. “

Duncan joked back: “I’m going into the world tiddlywinks championship next year!”

This comes after Emmerdale’s Mark expressed his appreciation to Elizabeth Boag after she left the soap.

Actor Marlon Dingle took to Twitter to say goodbye to Elizabeth’s character Gail Hancock as audiences watched her final scenes.

On Twitter, Elizabeth posted: “Bye Gail! Thank you Mark Charnock, Zoe Henry, all the cast, crew and cast of Emmerdale. Love every minute!”

Mark replied, “You were great on this part, Liz! Just awesome xx.”

Fans are desperate to see Elizabeth reprise her role, with one piece writing: “Let Liz be the regular Gail. Great acting. Character continuity and attention to detail. surpasses most dramas and movies.”

Another typed: “Don’t local doctors need nurses after they go to jail? Leave Gail as usual!”
