Serial killer Emmerdale Meena Jutla is confirmed to be leaving the ITV channel, as she finally comes to terms with the breakdown of her dark crimes.
But if the soap’s writers had had their way, she could have stayed on the show much longer.
They wanted to keep her as a character in the middle of a giant plot, but realized that she had committed so many crimes that it was justifiable.
In fact, Sharon Marshall told This Morning on Tuesday that Meena committed 25 crimes during her time in the village.
While they pondered a lot about figuring out how Meena could stay in the village, they quickly realized it wasn’t right.
She did not specify whether they meant anything after her crimes were exposed, or the crimes were kept secret for longer.
Speaking to hosts Josie Gibson and Phillip Schofield, Sharon said: “We look at serial killers and go, is there a way to keep them at bay?”
“Can people get away with it? So we said, is there any legal way she can get through this if she begs in a certain way and the team read out 25 acts? breaking the law that she did only on screen , which we already know.
“Probably more offscreen. So she broke the law 25 times…probably not.”
It comes amid fans calling for the plot to end for months, even though many viewers love the killer and her antics.
She was finally revealed to the village for killing Nadine, Andrea Tate, Leanna Cavanagh and Ben Tucker in January, before being arrested in February of this year.
Other crimes include the attempted murders of Manpreet Sharma, Victoria Sugden and Vinny Dingle, as well as the attacks of Leyla Harding and Harriet Finch.
She also kidnapped and threatened to kill Dawn Taylor and Billy Fletcher, while the police did not know that she was also plotting to kill Priya Sharma.
Meena will appear in court this week to hear her plea, but will she finally come to terms with her crimes?
