Emmerdale: Meena sentenced to life in prison

Paige has revealed all about what she hopes to do next, after giving up her role as serial killer Meena this week.

Meena was sentenced to at least 75 years in prison for the murders of Leanna Cavanagh, Ben Tucker and Andrea Tate, scaring her after believing she would get away with her crimes.

Her final scenes see Meena sobbing in her cell, amid anticipations that she’ll be back in celebration of the soap’s 50th anniversary – although it’s now claimed declare that this will not happen.

But actress Paige could be back on screen very soon, after telling The Mirror and other press about some of the movies she’s been in.

Revealing what kind of role she’d like to take on next, Paige confirmed that there’s something ahead.

She said: “I definitely want to keep playing baddies. I love baddies, I think they’re fun to play.

“But what’s really exciting and I want to continue is playing characters that are completely different from me, where you can have a lot of fun, they’re really challenging and satisfying, where it doesn’t really matter. if it’s a baddie or a goodie.

“As long as I feel a connection to them and they’re fun and challenging, they’re well written, the plot is great, so I wanted to do both.”

As for what’s already on the card, she teased: “I’m actually starting to shoot something, so that would be cool and there are other things that are potential, all of which are funny enough presents. .”

It comes after soap boss Kate Brooks explains why they came to an end of full justice for Meena, and didn’t kill her as others predicted would happen.

Kate told us, hoping fans will enjoy the change: “I really do, I really hope so, we could have killed Meena but I love the way we punished her and how weak she was when she left the show.

“It suits her personality so well, we take away the one thing that Meena craves all over the world, which is attention and notoriety, so once you remove that from Meena, I don’t know. What does she have left?

“She very quickly realized that this was the worst fate imaginable, it was worse than death or anything else.”

Kate added: “They’ve waited quite a while to see this happen, with a serial killer story like this it can be pretty Marmite but in the end people love and hate Meena.”

The soapmaker also addressed whether there was a temptation to keep the character on the show, despite her many crimes.

She explained: “Oh yeah, the amount of stories Meena gave us was ridiculous, so of course there was always that temptation.

“Someone who is capable of committing such heinous crimes and shows no remorse for those crimes, they won’t be able to stay in the village for long.

“They couldn’t continue down that path because there was nowhere else to go. We knew that we had to give everyone a sense of fairness and not only the viewers but also our characters, the the rest because if they don’t get a sense of justice or feel that Meena has been commensurate with those crimes, there’s no way we can turn them into characters.

“Ultimately we have to leave Meena’s fate in the hands of the Soap Gods and they need to punish her proportionately and I think and hope the viewers will be pleased.”
