‘Encanto’ soundtrack returns to #1, beating Gunna and Weeknd

When the background music for “EncantoDisney’s latest animated feature, which came out two months ago, was not a hit at all, entering the Billboard 200 at number 197.

But the catchy and eclectic songs of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film — performed on salsa, bachata, hip-hop, and classic Broadway — became sleep-inducing hits when the series began playing on Disney +, a month ago. For weeks, the song “We are not talking about Bruno“It’s inevitable on TikTok, with fans doing jump and sing along video, helping to make “Bruno” one of the top hits on Spotify and Apple Music.

This week, the “Encanto” soundtrack returned to #1 on the Billboard album chart, beating competition from Weeknd, Gunna, and Americana’s new release, the Lumineers. This is the second time “Encanto” has topped the chart, after being at No. 1 two weeks ago and then move to position 3.

“Encanto” sold the equivalent of 104,000 in the United States, including 125 million streams and 17,000 sales of the album as a complete package, according to MRC Data, Billboard’s tracking arm. “Encanto” is the first Disney soundtrack to have multiple No. 1 hits since “Frozen,” which spent a total of 13 weeks at number one in the first half of 2014. “Bruno” peaked at #2 on the chart. Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart, trailing Adele’s “Easy on Me”, which debuted at number one for its 10th week.

Last week’s best-seller on the album chart,”DS4Ever“Atlanta rapper Gunna, which fell one place to #2 in its second week of debut, lost 36% of comparable sales, while”Dawn FM“Losing 59%, sliding one down to 3rd place.

Adele’s “30” came in at No. 4, Morgan Wallen’s “Dangerous: The Double Album” at No. 5 and Lumineers’ “Brightside”, its first record in two and a half years, started at No. 6.
