England’s football fans have been invited to stay at a party island in Iran this year World Championship in Qatar.
However, this is Gareth Southgate On November 21st, the team will meet Iran in their opening game of the tournament.
Known as the Pearl of the Gulf, Kish is a 40 minute flight or 6 hour boat ride from Qatar.
While the island is not well known in the west, it is completely different from mainland Iran.
Alcohol is available on the duty-free island, which has high-end hotels and specializes in water sports on the beautiful beaches.
Despite the controversy surrounding Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s unlawful detention, the Iranian government insists fans from all countries are welcome.
Iranian government minister Rostam Ghasemi said he expected “hundreds of thousands of World Cup fans” to remain in Iran.
And he said staying in Kish is a particularly attractive option.
He said, “We are now planning to create the conditions for foreign fans and tourists to travel to Iran at their leisure to also visit our country’s attractions.”
Fans staying in Iran will see a much cheaper cost than Qatar. The Iranian rial has fallen in value due to US sanctions.
Iranian authorities hope fans traveling back and forth during the World Cup will boost the country’s tourism sector, which has been decimated in recent years by the combined impact of Covid-19 and the sanctions.
The month-long tournament is the first to be played in the usual football season.
