Erica McGlynn’s brace helps Kerry get past Tipperary into the Munster final

Kerry is through to the TG4 Munster Senior Final after a convincing win over Tipperary at the Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday afternoon.

The substitutions of eclan Quill and Darragh Long contributed fully to the win, which built on a commanding first-half performance punctuated by two goals from Erica McGlynn.

The Kingdom, set to play either Cork or Waterford in the provincial decider, got off to a better start as Niamh Ní Chonchúir and Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh (free transfer) parted the posts within five minutes.

Niamh Carmody added to Tipperary’s troubles with her side’s third goal as Kerry dominated possession and territory for much of the opening games.

Kerry underlined their quality with an outstanding goal after 9 minutes. Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh set up McGlynn to hammer the ball into the net after a smooth movement.

A free from Emma Morrissey put tip on the scoreboard, but her opponents responded quickly. with Niamh Ní Chonchúir to 1: 4 to 0: 1.

Starved for possession and forced to backfoot, Tipp’s massive defense kept Kerry at bay for a time.

The remainder of the one-sided first half saw Kerry’s full-back McGlynn to score a second goal and Emma Morrissey’s free-kicks kept Tipp within reach. But Kerry’s 2-7 to 0-4 lead at the break was well deserved.

Anna Rose Kennedy and Danielle O’Leary traded points shortly after the reboot as Tipp enjoyed one of her best spells.

However, Peter Creedon’s side had just one Emma Morrissey free for their effort and Kerry led 2-8 to 0-6 with 15 minutes to go.

The eventual winners added four points in response – McGlynn, Ní Chonchúir, Danielle O’Leary and Lorraine Scanlon all found their reach.

Tipp might have little objection with the result and Lidl National League Division 2 champions Kerry are set to offer strong resistance to Cork or Waterford in the Munster final.
