Euphoria Featured Barbie Ferreira Won’t Return For Season 3

According to a report published by The Daily Beast, the second season of “Euphoria” ended with drama on set in the direction the show was taking. Insiders who allegedly contributed to the report asserted that Ferreira frequently clashed with showrunner Sam Levinson over the proposed storylines Kat would go through. However, she refuted the report (via Diversity), saying that they were blown out proportionally.

It’s also possible that Ferreira won’t be the only cast member to leave the show, as it could undergo a whole creative reset. The second season finale, “All My Life, My Heart Has Mongned for a Thing I Cannot Name”, ended with a somewhat tight ending, with the show’s protagonist Rue (Zendaya) revealing via voiceover that she spent the rest of the school year cleaning. She also says she feels better about her future than ever.

It’s not yet clear how “Euphoria” plans to follow this up, but it could move away from the current high school scene entirely. A time jump, when Rue and/or her acquaintances are now young people, could happen. The show can now also focus on Rue’s older sister, Gia (Storm Reid), and her group of friends. Another possibility, admittedly not as likely as the others listed here, is that Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to cut the show’s massive budget, which was reported in 2019 by Diversity about $11 million per episode.
