Eurovision star Sam Ryder will deliver a CBeebies Bedtime Story sung specifically about showing your “true color” and being proud of who you are.
He is a 33-year-old British singer who rose to fame after he finished second to Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra in this year’s competition, delivering the UK’s best result in over 20 years.
He sings the True Colors story from a book written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and illustrated by Sarah Walsh, based on the popular 1986 song performed by Cyndi Lauper.
In the accompanying video, Ryder stands in front of a rainbow flag and asks viewers: “Do you like my colorful overalls?
“We are all colorful inside and out. I’ll sing you a bedtime story tonight. “
Ryder’s version of acapella sees him sing: “You with sad eyes / Don’t be discouraged, oh I realize / It’s hard to take courage.”
Sunday’s broadcast will coincide with World Kindness Day when people are asked to make the world a better place by “honoring and promoting good deeds and committing to acts of kindness, as an individual or an organization”.
As the world came to a standstill in March 2020, Ryder, from Essex, began uploading covers to TikTok and attracting the attention of global stars including Justin Bieber and Alicia Keys.
He then signed to record label Parlophone, part of Warner Music Group, and released his debut EP, The Sun’s Gonna Rise, in 2021.
He has been selected to compete for the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest by the BBC and global music management company TaP Music, which includes Lana Del Rey and Ellie Goulding among its clients.
His performance at the competition in Turin, Italy, in May captivated the audience and topped the national jury vote with 283 points.
