EVE Fanfest 2022: CCP Games’ Upcoming Content Roadmap Reveals Narrative Focus, Spreadsheets, and More

EVE online next era was unveiled at this year’s EVE Fanfest in Reykjavik, Iceland, when CCP Games unveiled the content roadmap for players. The roadmap includes moving quadrant updates to arcs, bringing about what the developers call “consistent story events,” and more.

During today’s keynote at EVE Fanfest, the Icelandic developer laid out his vision of what the MMORPG will do to evolve into its third decade of existence. As CCP describes it, Arcs, one of the key additions to the sci-fi MMO, will help flesh it out and evolve it further EVEs Storytelling, bringing about narrative events that have “following” outcomes for New Eden.

Arcs are the next iteration of the quadrant update system that CCP Games previously implemented, with the first arc fleshing out the storyline and background of one of them EVEs large NPC empires, the Caldari.

CCP Games compares the events to what players experienced during the invasion years, culminating in the creation of the Pochven region that permanently changed the map of New Eden.

About the press release:

“EVE is preparing to enter its third decade and the future has never been brighter,” said Bergur Finnbogason, Creative Director of EVE Online. “With Arcs, we are preparing EVE for the next chapter with a steady stream of narrative content that highlights player actions and decisions. Veterans of the Triglavian invasion may recall the fall of Pochven, which transformed trade routes and supply chains in New Eden – the narratives that accompany arcs can have a similar impact. The upcoming stories and events are not limited to veterans, however – with more activities coming soon to the new player experience, all capsuleers can enjoy the arcs of EVE, regardless of skill level.”

Also announced are additions to the New Player Experience with the AIR career program. Additionally, CCP brings SKINs for players who want to spice up their player structures to make stations look even better. EVE would also like to continue working on improving the MMO’s appearance, with audio and visual revisions, a higher level of detail and much more.

During the EVE launch ceremony, CCP London’s unannounced project was briefly touched upon. Not much is known yet other than that it will be an online tactical shooter, but we should hear more in the future. This isn’t the first time CCP has looked into developing a shooter, the most recent being Project Nova which was canceled by CCP Games.

Finally, I lean into the meme EVE On-line is a spreadsheet simulator, CCP Games has gone all-in on a partnership with Microsoft Excel, giving players the ability to have even more data at their fingertips. This allows players to export user data such as battle strategies to market profit margins.

We’ll have more from Fanfest throughout the weekend, so stay tuned to for more.
