EverQuest II opens beta for upcoming time-bound expansion server Varsoon

EverQuest II is getting a new time-locked expansion server later this month, and the developers at Darkpaw Games are opening beta tests for the new server Varsoon to test and refine before its release on May 24th.

Varsoon, which requires an All Access membership, will automatically unlock new content approximately every 16 weeks, with some exceptions. This means that new expansions will be available except after 16 weeks Desert of Flames, which will have a period of 12 weeks before the next expansion becomes available. Other content such as adventure packs and related material originally released between expansion packs will be released 8 weeks after the addition of the related expansion. Again, there will be an exception, with Desert of Flames Obtaining Hunter’s Quests and related items six weeks after release.

Some changes are always part of creating a new TLE in EverQuest II, so adjustments aren’t too much of a surprise. Items have been balanced and adjusted to server progress and pacing. Mount speeds are limited initially and can be increased with new upgrades. Other content will be considered “not in progress” and will not be made available at all. Some are introduced later in their original expansions, like guild halls. They come with me Rise of Kunark.

On Varsoon, all races will be available at launch, but both the Channeler and Beastlord classes will join the available classes later when their original expansions are unlocked. When it comes to spell research, it will be there at launch but limited at Master. However, there will be some omissions from Varsoon. No reforging, dungeon finder, loyalty system, familiars and other changes.
