The bail of an Everton footballer arrested last summer on suspicion of child molestation has been extended again.

Earlier, Greater Manchester Police extended his bail three times.

Following his arrest on Friday July 16, 2021, the footballer was in police custody until October 19, 2021. This was extended to Sunday 16 January 2022, which in turn was extended to Wednesday 19 January.

It was then extended for a third time to 17 April 2022, Greater Manchester Police confirmed mirror football in January. And a new statement has now revealed that the date has been extended to July 16 as the investigation continues.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “A 31-year-old man arrested on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offenses has had his bail extended after our request was approved by the judges. He will now be asked to respond on bail on Saturday July 16 while the investigation continues.”

The Premier League star was arrested last July after police searched his home. The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, remains suspended by his club, who are assisting the police in their investigation.

At the time of his arrest last year, Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers arrested a man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child abuse.

“He is on police bail pending further investigation.”

Everton also released a statement which said: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a player pending a police inquiry.

“The club will continue to assist the authorities with their inquiries and is not commenting further at this time.”

The police have not yet charged the player with any crime.

A source told him shortly after the arrest mirror : “It caused a massive shock.

“Any allegations of criminal offenses involving a child are rightly taken seriously from the point at which they are made.”

The insider added: “This matter clearly needs a full investigation. Allegations of this nature will cause significant concern to everyone within the club, fans and the general public.

“Now we have to wait and see where the investigation will lead us.”
