Setting up emergency contacts on your iPhone is a must.

iPhone has an Emergency SOS feature that allows you to quickly call emergency services.

But you can also add emergency contacts.

As soon as an emergency call is over, your iPhone will then alert those emergency contacts with an SMS – but this can be canceled if you wish.

iPhone sends your current location to your emergency contacts.

And the contacts also get updates when your location changes.

To set up emergency contacts, go to the Health app and then tap your profile picture.

Tap Medical ID, then tap Edit, then scroll to Emergency Contacts.

You can then activate Emergency SOS with the “five-click” trick.

How to activate Emergency SOS

There are two ways to activate the emergency SOS functions.

Press either the side or top button five times to pull up the emergency SOS slider.

Alternatively on one iPhone 8 or later press and hold the side button and a volume button until the slider appears.

Then drag the emergency slider to start the call.

You can choose how you want to call by going to Settings > Emergency SOS.

“If you continue to hold the side button and volume button instead of dragging the slider, a countdown will start and an alarm will sound,” Apple explained.

“If you hold the buttons until the countdown ends, your iPhone will automatically call emergency services.”

As a bonus, there is one more feature to think about enabling.

Apple created a feature called Medical ID that quickly displays your most important health information.

“Medical ID helps emergency responders access your important medical information from the lock screen without needing your passcode,” Apple explained.

“They can see information like allergies and medical conditions and know who to contact in an emergency.”

To set it up, go to the Health app and then tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.

Below the image, tap Medical ID.

Now select Edit and then enable ‘Show When Locked’.

You can also choose to share during the emergency call – although this clever iPhone trick only works in the US.

Now add all your information and then tap Done.

To view your medical card, open the lock screen, then tap the emergency button.

Now tap on the red Medical ID button to view the information.
