If there’s one game this year that has everyone chewing their nails in anticipation, it’s Project L. A fighting game set in the League of Legends universe. This title is drawing the attention of combat players, veteran League players, and more as the game slowly moves forward toward its eventual release.

What is the release date of Project L?

There is currently no official word on when Project L will be released. That being said, in their 2021 game presentation in November 2021 as part of the big Arcane event, they stated that the game is far from finished and will likely not be released at any point in 2022.

What kind of fighting game is Project L?

Project L is a 2D fighter with 2v2 combat where each player takes control of a pair of League of Legends characters. In terms of close comparisons, the game appears to have the same pace as Street Fighter titles but with flexible tag mechanics that hark back to titles like Marvel vs. Capcom or Dragon Ball FighterZ.

What platforms will Project L be released on?

It is not yet known which platforms Project L will be released on. However, it is safe to assume that Riot Games titles will appear almost exclusively on PC and will have a presence there. Console versions are yet to be confirmed.

Who is doing Project L?

Aside from Riot Games, the company behind the title, there are some really interesting people behind the founding of Project L. Tom and Tony Cannon have been positioned as the faces of the project so far, both of which have long histories in the fighting games community . Tom is the founder of Evo, the world’s largest fighting game tournament, while his brother Tony was behind the groundbreaking arcade netcode software GGPO. cool stuff!

Seth Killian, another legendary name in the western fighting game community, also played an early role in the development of Project L. However, he quietly left the company in 2019 to work at Epic Games. There is no official word as to why he left.

How long has Project L been in development?

Technically, Project L may have been in the works as early as 2016 when the company acquired Radiant Entertainment. This developer was assisted by Tom and Tony Cannon and Seth Killian in the development of Rising Thunder. This game, which is now still playable via a publicly available community version, has been canceled to make way for Project L.

When is the next Project L beta?

At the moment, there’s no word on an upcoming beta for Project L. There’s been invite-only playtesting, but nothing close to a public or even closed online beta.
