Everything we know so far about David E. Kelley and Regina King’s Netflix series

If reputable TV has taught us anything, the rich man problem is all the rage. Out of the TV series that prove this point, David E. Kelley (“Big Little Lies,” “Anatomy of a Scandal”) is returning to Netflix with an adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s 1998 novel, “A Man In Full.” The series is a co-production with Regina King (“One Night In Miami”), who was also chosen to direct. Together, the talented duo will tell the story of a real estate mogul on the brink of bankruptcy, struggling to maintain his wealth in the face of political ravages.

Since the “Succession” seasons are so far and few between seasons, the TV rig will need some help filling the power-matching quota and this seems like only the series can do that. ! A real estate mogul is just the tip of the iceberg – the series will also include lawyers, politicians and so many corrupt elites that you’ll start to believe you’re watching the news. Except that it would be much more dramatic. Coming from David E. Kelley is a big point in this show’s favor: stellar TV producer who is an 11-time Emmy Award winner with a solid track record for catching shows. Will “A Man In Full” continue the trend? Here’s everything we know so far.

What A Man in Full will be about

With the series still in production, Netflix hasn’t said much about the plot of “A Man In Full” beyond a simple logline:

In A Man in Full, as Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels) faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests clash as he defends his empire from who try to take advantage of his downfall from grace.”

For more details, we can check out a synopsis of Tom Wolfe’s novel, which reveals that the series is set in “a mixed-race end-of-century neighborhood, rife with newfound wealth and sly politicians.” Once a college football star, Charles Croker is now a middle-aged corporate king with an oversized ego and a heavy burden of debt. Although business turmoil is a key element of the story, Charles is just one of many characters the novel follows in the wake of the shocking events that take place in Atlanta. Incident instigated? A rumor begins to circulate about a young white heiress being sexually assaulted by a black superstar athlete. The incident has the potential to incite racial riots in the region and, ultimately, have a profound impact on the lives of the characters. Along with Charles, the character lineup includes local politicians, lawyers and employees at Croker’s firm.

Cast and crew of A Man in Full

If the plot of “A Man In Full” isn’t enough to pique your interest, the cast will complete the deal. The novel is about five different POV characters, so the series will have a cast that includes Jeff Daniels and Diane Lane in the lead roles. Daniels plays Charles Croker and Lane plays his first wife, Martha Croker. Sarah Jones (“For All Mankind”) plays Charlie’s second wife, who becomes the essential voice of reason when his business spirals out of control.

They will star “The Good Place” and “Love Life” star William Jackson Harper as Wes Jordan, an incumbent mayor determined to secure re-election. Another popular character, Tom Pelphrey will play Raymond Peepgrass, a lowly loan officer whose primary characteristics are ambition and sexual desire. According to the character description shared by Deadline, “He wants to be respected, but he will decide for sex, revenge and some money.” He seems to be a fun character in the midst of some chaos, especially when he’s played by Tom Pelphrey. The actor is about to have a critically acclaimed recurring role on Netflix’s “Ozark,” which recently earned him a well-deserved Emmy nomination.

“Sense8” fans will recognize Aml Ameen’s name, as the actor played Capheus Onyango. In keeping with the jovial personality he’s famous for, Ameen plays Roger White, a Croker Industries lawyer with a deep sense of morality who ends up entangled in Charlie’s mess. Jon Michael Hill (“Widows”) and Chanté Adams (“A League of their Own”) play a married couple, Conrad and Jill Hensley, hard-working Croker employees who are expecting their first child.

Kelley is set to serve as the series’ writer, executive producer, and presenter, with the King executive producing and directing three episodes.
