Ewan McGregor ugly split from his wife before the reconciliation and went “trash row” with daughters

Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are reportedly due to marry in Los Angeles today – five years after they burst onto the scene in a relationship that shocked not only his daughters but the world at large.

The couple met on the set of the film Fargo and began dating in 2017, shortly after splitting from his 22-year-old wife Eve Mavrakis in a toxic breakup that divided his children, fans and movie insiders.

But the 51-year-old actor and 37-year-old Mary, who gave birth to a son Laurie last June, have stood the test of time and now the family – including Ewan’s four daughters – are firmly reconciled.

A source had told it page six : “They are more in love than ever and having their first child together last year only strengthened their bond.”

But what happened between him and his ex-wife Eve Mavrakis? And what about his four children with her – Clara, 26, Esther Rose, 20, Jamyan, also 20, and Anouk, 11.

Ewan and Mary – a secret relationship

Ewan and his partner Mary first met on the set of the 2016 show Fargo. Ewan played both Emmit and Raymond “Ray” Stussy.

Mary took on the role of Nikki Swango, a recently paroleed and Ray’s fiancée.

In May 2017, Mary even announced her split from her husband of seven years, Riley Stearns.

“We have decided to end our marriage, but we will remain best friends and collaborators for all our days of People.

A few months later, Ewan and Mary were pictured kissing in west London a few months later, just before Ewan split from his wife.

“They were deep in conversation and were there for more than an hour,” an anonymous source said told The sun. “As they left, she got on the back of Ewan’s bike and they sped off together.”

Following the breakup, a shocked fan took to social media to express their concerns to Eve. Eva replied, “What can I do?”

A few years later, during an interview with Men’s Journal, he also revealed that he’s “doing better” in his new relationship.

“I’m happier,” he said. “I think that’s true.”

In 2021, Ewan won the Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie award for his role in Halston. He walked onto the stage and gave her a romantic greeting.

“Mary, I love you so much,” he said. “I love you so much and we’re taking this home to show our new little boy Laurie. And to my beautiful girls that I know who are watching, Clara, Jamyan, Esther and Anouk, I said I’d say hello to you too.”

Ewan and Eve – a 22-year showbiz marriage

The Star Wars actor married the French-Greek-Jewish production designer in 1995. The two met and fell in love on the set of ITV drama Kavanagh QC.

In a 2015 interview, Ewan said of his first wife and their marriage, “In a way, it was amazing. I lived my dream of becoming an actor and partied wildly a lot. So she was with me through all this madness.

“I knew right away that I really wanted to be with her, and I knew I wanted to be with her in a different way than all the many, many, many women I’ve been with up to this point . And I wasn’t wrong. I made the right choice.”

The former couple have four children together, two of them adopted. He met one of his children while traveling through Mongolia for Long Way Round.

The two finally split in May 2017 and began the process of their messy divorce a year later.

When asked about the breakup, Eve said called: “It’s disappointing and upsetting, but my main concern is that our four children are doing well.”

He cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, and the divorce was finalized in 2020.

Shortly after filing for divorce, he began dating Mary. Clara was dissatisfied with his new relationship at the time.

Ewan and Eve were reportedly fighting over custody when the divorce went nasty.

Ewan is believed to have filed for joint custody of their children in his divorce filing, but Eve filed for sole custody with visitation rights to the actor.

At the time, TMZ claimed Ewan was willing to pay spousal support and wanted their assets split evenly because they didn’t have a prenuptial agreement.

However, later reports suggested there were problems with the money Ewan handed over to his ex.

TheBlast.com reported that the court documents revealed that the star “voluntarily contributed to the living expenses” of Eve and her children.

However, he apparently believed he was paying more than his normal commitment would have been.

The site also reported that Eve believed she was “getting less than she should have gotten from the actor.”

They eventually came to a suitable settlement and the divorce was finalized in August 2020.

Bitter relationship with daughter

His eldest daughter Clara was initially unhappy with her father’s new relationship with Mary and even hit out at her on social media.

A fan account shared a photo of Mary at the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscars party.

Clara revealed she kept being tagged in the photo by Mary and losing her temper after seeing endless comments about her mum.

Citing the profile message, which was an effusive tribute to Mary, Clara fumed: “Most beautiful and talented woman in the world??? Oh man, you’re all delusional. The girl is a piece of trash 🙂 x.”

One fan tried to defend Mary, saying: “Tell her to her face, not on social media. It took TWO to undo this marriage.

“If a man OR a woman is happy in their marriage, no outside interference can destroy it!”

Clara then replied: “Yup, it took two!! Mary & my dad :)”

After the online situation, she admitted The times that it wasn’t her ‘finest moment’.

Although Clara explained her side of the story, she admitted she was in no rush to meet his father’s new partner, saying: “I’m fine. I wish them all the best, but I’m staying out of it for sure. “

Thankfully, Clara, Ewan and Mary soon reconciled and things got better for all of them. Clara even happily shared a photo of her brother after he was born.

Ewan and Mary’s baby

In 2021, Ewan – who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars – and Mary secretly welcomed a baby boy into the world.

Clara was the one to confirm the birth of the couple’s first child together.

She shared a photo of herself cradling the newborn and added the caption: “Welcome to the world little brother. Happy birthday to my dad and Mary – that is the greatest gift.”

In another picture, Clara lovingly looked down at her little brother while he stared up at her.

Ewan’s other daughter, Esther, also shared a sweet post of herself as she met her new brother.

She wrote: “Met my little brother who looked like a pirate. I recommend! Welcome to the family, little Laurie.”
