Ex-Brighton goalkeeper joins FC Copenhagen

The Danish Superliga champions have signed the Socceroos captain on a two-year deal following his sacking from LaLiga club Real Sociedad.

Ryan played 122 games for Albion during his four years with Amex.

He was the club’s number one goalkeeper before being replaced by current star Robert Sanchez after a period of questionable form.

The goalkeeper initially left Albion on loan to Arsenal FC before being sold to Real Sociedad in 2021.

The 30-year-old said Copenhagen are a club with a “fantastic reputation across Europe” and now that his future is settled he can try to impress and be called up for Australia at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar .

He said: “The team is of great quality and the ambitions for the club are high when it comes to winning titles and playing in the biggest tournaments in Europe.

“I will work hard to contribute.”

Ryan replaces the club’s current goalkeeper Kamil Grabara, who is out injured.

Head coach Jess Thorup sees Ryan’s arrival as a reinforcement for his side.

“It’s a very talented goalkeeper who comes to Copenhagen and he will certainly increase the competition for that position,” said Thorup.

โ€œHis career in Europe has always been of a high standard and he is definitely a winner who sets the bar high for himself and his teammates.

“He’s lightning fast, sure-footed and has a lot of experience, so we’re looking forward to working with him.”
