Born and raised in Ballyfermot, Rory Cowan worked in a record shop before becoming a promotional and logistics man for Mrs Brown’s Boys. He later took on the role of Rory Brown and left the show in 2017 to take care of his mother. Cowan wrote his autobiography Mrs Cowan’s Boy in 2018. Since 2019 he has played the role of John “Bosco” Walsh in RTÉ’s “Fair City”. He lives in Kilmainham with his two cats.
My uncle Harry carries me in his arms to spend the night with him and my aunt Eileen. It was the first time I left my mother. I was maybe two and a half.
When and where were you happiest?
Rush caravan holiday in the 1960’s with my family. We would go for two weeks and have a great time.
What is your biggest fear?
getting dementia.
What is your least and most attractive quality?
I can be very lazy if I’m not careful and my most attractive trait is my sense of humor.
What quality do you regret most in others?

What is the first thing you would do if you were the Taoiseach?
I would swap the HSE.
What is your biggest insecurity?

Who would you most like to have a beer with?
My favorite person to have a beer with is Robert Doggett, Maître d’ at the Trocadero restaurant.
Which fictional character do you identify with the most?
Michael Novotny out Queer like Folk USA.
What is your most prized possession?
My pop/rock memorabilia. I love the Beatles and Kate Bush. And I also cherish my two cats, Pebbles and Bam Bam. They had a difficult start; You were born under a truck. I went for one and came home with two when I heard they were brother and sister. Now they live their best life with tuna and spring water.
What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Dessert. My absolute favorite is bread and butter pudding. I love it but I really shouldn’t because I have type 2 diabetes.
What’s the best advice you’ve received?
Find a Chelsea supporter as a friend. They have already shown their loyalty.
When was the last time you cried and why?
I cry all the time when I watch TV shows.
Who would play you in a movie of your life?
Brad Pitt.
do you believe in a god
Yes. I always wanted to be holy. Travel around the world with me Mrs. Brown’s boys, I’ve been to churches and cathedrals all over the world, but the only time I felt in a state of grace was when I was at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
what is your favourite word?
Fabulous.
What’s the last TV show you binge watched?
Blue blood.
What advice would you give your 18 year old self?
Don’t waste your time or women’s time pretending you’re straight.
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Read minds.
What was your most embarrassing moment?
When I was DJing at Pink Elephant in the early 1980s, a client came up and asked me if I had Led Zeppelin and I said to him, ‘It’s a disco.’ When I checked again, that customer was Robert Plant, lead singer of Led Zeppelin. There was no going back from that.
The book you wish you had written?
The front runner by Patricia NellWarren.
The book you couldn’t finish?
gloomy house by Charles Dickens. I tried a few times but I never got in.
What was the worst job you’ve ever done?
I’ve never had a job I didn’t like. My mom wanted me to have a job in a bank, so I failed math exams on purpose so she couldn’t nag me, and I got a job at a record store, which I adored. I’ve been promoted over the years and eventually became EMI’s Marketing Manager.

I get radio frequency on my face every month.
What song would you like to play at your funeral?
When the saints march in by a ragtime band. You can play it when the curtain closes and I’m on my way to flambé.
