A former police officer was found to have failed to show “authority, respect and courtesy” after an altercation at a football game.
Ex-PC Doug Campbell, who was based in Horsham, was the subject of a misconduct hearing on Tuesday 12 July.
After being involved in a series of exchanges during a football game, he faced allegations of discrediting behavior and a lack of authority, respect and courtesy.
The match was a community event in Storrington, organized by one of his colleagues on July 25, 2021.
The panel, chaired by an independently qualified Legal Secretary at Sussex Police Headquarters, found the allegations proven and he would have been fired had he still been on duty.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Bell, Head of Professional Standards Division, said: “We expect our officers and employees to act with the utmost integrity and in accordance with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.
“The actions of this official fell far short of these, which is reflected in the panel’s findings.
“The unacceptable behavior that has been heard here will not be tolerated but this bad behavior should not overshadow the hard work of the vast majority of our officers, staff and volunteers at Sussex Police.”
