Eyewitness reports terror after two men jump off Brighton Palace Pier

AN EYEWITNESS who saw two men “jumping off” Brighton Palace Pier described the aftermath of the incident as something out of a “horror movie”.

The witness told how paramedics performed CPR on one of the men for “30 minutes” while “a hundred” people watched from the beach before it was locked down.

Police, ambulance crews and the RNLI visited Brighton seafront yesterday, with a helicopter also circling over the seafront around 7pm.

Two men were taken to the hospital. The police have not yet released any information about her condition.

Daniel had traveled to Brighton for the day he witnessed the shocking incident.

He said part of the beach was closed while emergency services were at the scene.

Daniel, who declined to give his last name, said around a dozen paramedics were tending to the two patients.

He spoke of the shock he felt as entertainment on the beach, including a balloon man and a bungee jump trampoline, continued while emergency services tended to the two men.

“It was surreal,” he said.

“A very shocking experience.

“Kids were still jumping up and down while a huge scene was taking place.

“It was like something out of a horror movie.

“There was a lot of police, ambulances, there was a helicopter.

“There were a lot of police cars, sirens all around the pier.

“People got excited.

“100 people or more watched.

“It was very surreal.

“There were a lot of people screaming and a lot of little kids scared.

“It was very distressing.”

Daniel said he saw paramedics get the two people into ambulances.

The police announced on Sunday evening.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Two men have been taken to hospital after reportedly jumping into the sea from Brighton Palace Pier.

“Police were alerted to the incident around 6.55pm on Sunday 28 August.

“Officials assisted emergency services partners at the scene and the men were left in the care of emergency services and taken to hospital.”

Sussex Police have been asked for information on the condition of the men.
