The problem doesn’t seem to be widespread at the moment.

But several users have already complained on competing social networks like Twitter.

Most appear to be in non-English speaking countries.

Screenshots suggest that affected users are seeing a strange “unexpected error” message when attempting to log in.

“Login Error: An unexpected error occurred,” it says.

“Please try to log in again.”

The Down Detector site actually noticed a spike in reported Facebook issues from around 8am UK time.

They peaked around noon and are currently still above normal.

What is behind the problem is not clear at this point in time.

Meta, who owns Facebook, hasn’t said anything about it either, which also makes us wonder if this might be a minor thing.

This is in contrast to a major outage last year that saw all of Mark Zuckerberg’s apps around the world offline for hours.

This not only hit Facebook, but Instagram and WhatsApp, which he also owns.
