The newsfeed only showed posts on celebrity sites, leading to an influx of weird memes.

Thousands of Facebook fans in the UK and US have reported the issue.

Many feared that Mark Zuckerberg’s own platform had been hacked.

But the tech giant has now revealed what’s behind the massive glitch.

A company rep said it all came down to a “configuration change” that went horribly wrong.

But the full extent of how that happened remains a mystery.

Posts sent to celebrity sites e.g Kim KardashianEd Sheeran, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift and Bear Grylls were among those showing weird spam posts when the outage hit.

“I didn’t realize how many … weirdos there are who have nothing better to do than indulge in posting random s*** on celebrity pages on Facebook,” said one user.

“This glitch is something else.”

Another said: “Big mistake on Facebook..Loads of celebrity posts!!!

“My timeline messed up. What the hell happened?”

A spokesman for the meta company said: “A configuration change has caused some people to experience issues with their Facebook feed.

“We resolved the issue for all concerned as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience.”
