Fake German heiress Anna Sorokin is released from US immigration detention

Fake German heiress Anna Sorokin has been released from US immigration detention, her attorney has confirmed.

The 31-year-old fake guy, whose feat of inspiring the hit Netflix series Inventing Anna, has been in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since March 2021.

Her stay at ICE comes after more than three years behind bars defrauding banks, hotels and friends for a lavish lifestyle.

Immigration authorities said Sorokin had overstayed his visa and had to return to Germany.

Earlier this week, a US immigration judge agreed to transfer her from custody to home solitary confinement while she battles deportation.

Sorokin is required to post a $10,000 bond (£8,900), provide the residential address where she will be staying for the duration of her immigration case, and not post on social media .

Her immigration attorney, John Sandweg, confirmed to the PA news agency that her release has begun and that she is being transferred from the Orange County Correctional Facility in upstate New York to midtown Manhattan.

“She is on her way to release… she is still going through final processing,” Mr. Sandweg said.

“She got out of the prison where she was being held.”

Sorokin was convicted in 2019 of multiple counts of burglary and petty theft.

She was sentenced to between 4 and 12 years in prison, credited with more than 500 days of serving time while her case was pending, and was released for good conduct in February 2021, before received by immigration authorities a few weeks later.

Using the name Anna Delvey, Sorokin made his way into New York’s elite by presenting himself as a social networking site with a net worth of $67m (£59m) overseas, prosecutors member said.
