The vet’s touching letter

The vet’s letter, which has a pawprint inked on the underside, reads: “The tide is receding but is leaving glowing shells in the sand. The sun is setting, but gentle warmth still lingers on the land.

“The music stops but continues to reverberate in sweet, soulful choruses. For every joy that passes, something beautiful remains.”

Sharing his thoughts on the letter, one user said: “I’m struck by how thoughtful and touching this is. The paw print makes me sad though.”

While another user added: “You just made a 35 year old man shed a tear for a long gone childhood pet.

“The pain passes, although sometimes you are reminded how much you miss her, but 18 years later, the great memories still live on.

“I’m happy for you that you have to say goodbye.

One user shared his own experience of having to put down a pet: “I’m in tears now. We had to put our 18 year old poodle to sleep a few months ago, I still find it hard to try and accept that she won’t be waiting for me on our doorstep when I get back from work like she has been since I was in school

“But every time I see our front door there’s the vivid memory of her, and all the good memories of my friend for life come together every day. I have tears of joy in my eyes.”

Another user added: “My vet did something very similar – he did a plaster cast. We’ve since put it in a little shadow box with a picture behind it.”
