Fans have been given a first look at the upcoming Luther movie ahead of its release next year.
Dris Elba has portrayed DCI John Luther in the BBC crime thriller series since its premiere in 2010. The series of the same name was first announced by Netflix in 2021.
In the first of two newly released images, DCI Luther can be seen grimacing as he traverses the snow-covered mountain landscape in his signature tweed jacket.
In the second part, the hot-tempered detective appears to be in an underground tunnel, showing a curious expression.
The film is scheduled to release on Netflix in March 2023, Elba, 50, will reprise the role of the character of the same name, starring Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis.
Dermot Crowley will also return as detective Martin Schenk.
Speaking to Empire magazine about Luther’s much-anticipated film, Elba said: “We get out of the barren streets of London, we take it out there a little bit.
“It’s great. It feels like we’re entering another life of the Luther experience now.”
Elba also serves as a producer on the film, written by Neil Cross and directed by Jamie Payne.
Earlier this year, Elba starred in the thriller Beast, about a father and two teenage daughters being hunted by lions while on vacation in the savanna.
Elba returned to South Africa to film the blockbuster, after filming the television series Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom in the country in 2013.
