The good news for Potterheads is that the sequel to the prequel is finally coming to UK cinemas on Frida.
Fans have been waiting four years for Fantastic Beasts 3: Secrets of Dumbledore – the third installment in a five-part series – thanks to the pushbacks, cast disaster, and pandemic.
So what can you expect from the long-awaited movie?
JK Rowling has captivated millions with her award-winning books, Harry Potter films and West End plays.
But after the previous Potter prequel, fans began to wonder if the spell was starting to wear off. Thankfully, while there’s still nothing quite like a trip to Hogwarts, the third Fantastic Beasts movie brings some cinematic magic back to Rowling’s “The Wizarding World.”
If you didn’t watch or can’t remember 2018, Crimes Of Grindelwald’s mystically complicated 2018 may well need a quick update.
Set decades before a tiny Daniel Radcliffe first boarded the Hogwarts Express, Fantastic Beasts’ adult hero is Eddie Redmayne’s “magician” Newt Scamander.
This wand-waving David Attenborough spends his days collecting cute, magical creatures and hiding them in his tardis-like suitcase.
But in the final film, he becomes embroiled in a wits battle between the younger (and now openly gay) Professor Dumbledore and the evil sorcerer Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp).

We are now in the 1930s, and the fallout has become much more severe.
With fascism on the rise in Muggle Europe, Grindelwald (Mads Mikklesen replacing Depp was canceled), plans to hold an election to become the leader of the magical world so that he can able to destroy all non-magical “Muggles”.
His key is a scaly, deer-like creature that can detect which candidate has the purest heart. If Grindelwald can charm one of them, winning the election is a duel. This is where Newt finally shows his worth.
In a bracy opening scene, Newt hunts down a magical Bambi with Grindelwald’s goons in hot pursuit. Meanwhile, Dumbledore is preparing for a tense reunion with the elder himself at a teahouse in Leicester Square.

“I love you,” Dumbledore explained why he signed a non-aggression pact with Grindelwald and sealed it in a magical talisman.
“I will burn their world down, and there is nothing you can do to stop me,” his ex replied before leaving the cafe.
While Dumbledore can’t fight him with magic, he can plan from the sidelines.
So a team of crack magic is assembled, which includes Newt, Newt’s brother Theseus (Callum Turner), wizard Eulalie Hicks (Jessica Williams), and Muggle baker Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler).
Grindelwald played even more dirty, controlling Dumbledore’s estranged brother Aurelius (Ezra Miller) in an attempt to attack his former lover.

The two sides clash in a series of eye-catching action scenes. Highlights include a prison break with a mob of scorpion-like creatures and a spectacular wand fight in the streets of Berlin.
Grindelwald remains a familiar villain (basically a nosed Voldemort), but Mikklesen brings a less colorful and terrifying villain to Depp.
The season also benefits from fewer side-scrolls and less screentime for Redmayne’s clumsy hero, who turns out to be much more charming in a smaller dose.
Sadly, there is still a Hogwarts-sized hole at the heart of this series. I suspect that it was the Quidditch games, the playground games, and the childish wonder of the young heroes that made the five Potter films so magical.
In the cinema from Friday.
CONTINUOUS AND COVID
The series, written by JK Rowling in 2001, has been without end with a series of controversies since it began in 2016. And the third film is no exception.
Johnny Depp played Gellert Grindelwald in the first two Fantastic Beast movies but was forced to quit after a judge in a high-profile defamation case said claims he assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard were “basically version is the truth”.
He worked for a day on the film and is said to have paid his full £8m fee.
Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, who played the villain Le Chiffre in James Bond’s Casino Royale, has joined the cast.

Mads said: “Work wise, it’s obviously super fun and nice.
“It was also a shock when it came after what happened, which is so sad. These are sad circumstances.”
The coronavirus has severely disrupted filming, which was halted after just one day in March 2020 as many scenes would be filmed in Brazil, a country hit hard by the crisis.
And Ezra Miller, who was fired after a video emerged showing him strangling a female fan, was arrested for disorderly conduct at a karaoke bar in Hawaii and released on bail.
CAST (AND ADVERTISING)
The actors have always been tight-lipped about the film, with some roles not yet confirmed by Warner Bros.
We’ll see familiar faces Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, Dan Fogler, who plays Jacob Kowalski, and Alison Sudol, who appears as Queenie Goldstein.
Ezra Miller returns as Credence Barebone (or is it Aurelius Dumbledore?) alongside Callum Turner as Theseus Scamander, William Nadylam as Yusuf Kama, Poppy Corby-Tuech as Vinda Rosier, Jessica Williams as Professor Hicks and Victoria Yeates as Bunty.

New faces include Richard Cotle, who plays Aberforth, the younger brother of Albus Dumbledore. Oliver Masucci also joins the cast, said to be the Head of the International Federation of Wizards.
Of course, Fantastic Beasts is plentiful, with some dancing crabs and what appears to be a giant scorpion appearing in the trailer.
But there are also creatures familiar with Newt’s Bowtruckle, Pickett (the magical version of a stick insect) and his trusty – and obsessed with gold and jewels – niffler, Teddy.
- The first film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, grossed £620 million worldwide. The second film, The Crimes of Grindelwald, had a budget of £150 million and grossed £500 million worldwide.
- Eddie Redmayne claims he suffered “wand elbow” while making the film – the elbow hurt after repeating wand movements all day long on set.
- Before accepting the role of Newt, Eddie auditioned for the role of Tom Riddle in Chamber of Secrets but was turned down. Eddie was said to be the only choice for the role of Newt.
- Although set in 1920s New York, not a single scene from the first Fantastic Beast movie was made at the Big Apple because much of the architecture of that era was destroyed. Instead, the film was shot in the UK.
