Fantasy Premier League Picks Matchweek 3: Gabriel Martinelli, Marc Cucurella, Ivan Perisic and more

Gabriel Martinelli

If you’ve taken our advice ahead of Matchweek 1, Martinelli should already be part of your squad and you’ll have benefited from two goals in his first two games and a decent 16 points, with the promise of more to come. If not, don’t worry: there’s still time to jump on.

Despite being this week’s most-used midfielder and his subsequent price increases, the Arsenal winger still represents excellent value at £6.3million. Two superb games are in store this weekend in the form of Bournemouth away followed by Fulham at home.

Some were put off by James in preseason for threatening to play at right centre-back. It’s certainly one thing – James started in the back three against Tottenham on Sunday – but if anything it increases his chances of playing regular minutes.

And as we saw on Sunday, switching to full-back can bring a lot of points in the game. James scored Chelsea’s second goal and set up Kai Havertz for a sitter from that position minutes earlier. A run against Leeds, Leicester and Southampton is too good to ignore.

Marc Cucurella

From the moment Cucurella was linked with a move from Brighton to one of the Premier League’s top clubs, Fantasy executives knew he had the potential to become a mainstay at a cost of just £5.0m to be our cadres.

The only question is whether he is also a mainstay at Chelsea. Rotation is an issue – especially when they sign Wesley Fofana for left centre-back – but with Ben Chilwell still building in fitness his place looks secure for now.

Ivan Toney

Many managers are happy with their front line, with Jesus alongside one of Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, then either a non-playing 4.5 meter or Aleksandar Mitrovic depending on their structure. Toney is the only player threatening to shake this up.

The Brentford frontman has recorded one goal and two assists so far. Now Fulham are next and Everton, Leeds and Southampton are in the next five. That’s at least something to consider, especially if you’re in game week 3 with a wild card.

Demarai Gray

Under 8.0 m it is difficult in midfield. Many managers want to leave either Leon Bailey or Pedro Neto or both. Bailey is the more pressing sell after being eliminated from the Aston Villa starting line-up last weekend.

If you have an extra 0.5m consider Gray with Everton against a shaky looking Nottingham Forest. If not, it might be worth switching to 4.5m like Romeo Lavia or Harrison Reed, then putting the money in the bank and investing in defense.
