Fashion Week Party for Rodarte, Diesel and Shayne Oliver

Is it really New York Fashion Week? Many designers have come up with this and for a moment, the party calendar looks pretty bleak. Luckily, the invites started trickling in late last week. Here are some highlights from Friday.

Instead of a fashion show, Rodarte revisited their most famous pieces at a week-long exhibition, “The Art of Rodarte” at Spring Studios. It includes illustrations of the tiara Natalie Portman wore in the 2010 film, “Black Swan”, and a knit dress from their fall 2009 collection, inspired by “Frankenstein” ” by Boris Karloff.

Occasion: Conversation on February 11 with Kate and Laura Mulleavy, founders of Rodarte, led by Maude Apatow (star of “Euphoria”; daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann); followed by a light cocktail party. It was also Kate Mulleavy’s birthday.

Room: The sixth floor of Spring Studios (the venue for many fashion shows) has been transformed into an “immersive customer experience” with costumes on mannequins, holograms, and video projections. Upstairs, at the cocktail bar, giant black-and-white balloons read “Happy Birthday Kate.”

Costume: Combination of Zara shirt, business suit and a few VIP guests at Rodarte. “Sometimes she thinks it’s a perpetual loan and it’s not,” said comedian Jill Kargman, of the Rodarte dress her 18-year-old daughter, Sadie, gave Rodarte. borrow. Ms. Kargman added that she owns the black Rodarte shirt she was wearing.

Attended: The crowd also included several young actresses (Hari Nef, Rowan Blanchard, Melissa Roxburgh); fashion editor of all kinds; and Anthony Eisen, co-founders of Afterpay, the buy-now, post-pay app that sponsored the show.

Mood: “I’ve lived in California for a year and a half and Rodarte’s Halloween party was one of three that went on,” said Neff, who wore a black and white ruffled Rodarte dress under a vintage fur. coat (coyote, she thought). How does this side compare? “People behave better,” she said.

Diesel on the rise? The Italian brand known for its premium denim has opened a flagship store in SoHo in an attempt, perhaps, to capture the glory days of the 1990s. “Now is the time,” says Eraldo Poletto. , said the chief executive officer of Diesel North America. (Renzo Rosso, who founded Diesel in 1978, didn’t attend.) “It’s about freedom and American values. We want to return to the future”.

Occasion: Store opening at 122 Spring Street, and a party after party to celebrate the latest collection by creative director, Glenn Martens.

Room: A minimalist two-story store on the corner of Spring and Greene streets, painted in the brand’s signature red. The basement bar is a crazy house.

Attended: La La Anthony, former MTV VJ; model Alexandra Richards; and various rappers including Flo Milli, Saucy Santana and Maliibu Miitch, all outfitted by Diesel. Maliibu Miitch, who wears an open coat with nothing underneath, loves her leggings. “Because they showed me the bootee,” she said.

Mood: “Diesel is definitely back,” said a man named Shiva Wolves. “They’re bringing the excitement back to New York, post-pandemic.” On further questioning, he revealed that he was visiting from Miami.

Shayne Oliver shook the fashion world when he put his Hood by Air brand on hiatus in 2017. Now he’s back. On February 11, the fashion elite took to the Warehouse in Hudson Yards for a 10:30 p.m. show, showcasing first looks from his new eponymous label.

Occasion: This is the second of a three-night festival in Shed produced by Mr. Oliver’s Club of Anonymous, a studio that encompasses music, art and fashion.

Room: The theater on the sixth floor, which seats 500 people, has been transformed into a black box, with a large scaffolding where models climb down metal stairs and Eartheater, an instrumentalist, performs.

Attended: Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria”, Evan Mock from “Gossip Girl” and Oliver fans including Bethany Hardison, Antwaun Sargent, Ferdinando Verderi, artists Rachel Rose and Quil Lemons. There’s a lot of leather and black skin, and everywhere you look, it seems like gender and fashion are being blurred.

Mood: The disciples of Mr. Oliver’s fashion temple felt contented. “It is a total work of art,” said Mr. Sargent, director of the Gagosian Gallery. “It’s exciting that Shayne is back. I’m excited for him to have all the space he wants. It was radical and it was this moment. It is knocking down all the doors.”
