Fast & Furious director Justin Lin makes the ‘difficult’ decision to resign

Justin Lin has said he will be “forever grateful” to the FAST family after announcing that he will step down as director of the Fast & Furious movie.

Justin Lin has announced that he will be stepping down from his directorial role in the Fast & Furious movie.

The director, 50, says he made the “difficult” decision to end his stint as director of the tenth season in the franchise.

He revealed the pride he feels in being part of “the most diverse series in cinematic history” and admits he will be “forever grateful” to the cast and crew for their help over the years.

Fast X is expected to launch in 2023 with the return of stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson and Jordana Brewster.

Charlize Theron has also been tipped to reprise her role in the action movie.

Lin released a statement on social media on Tuesday that read: “With Universal’s support, I have made the difficult decision to step back from my position as director of FAST X, while continuing to with the project as a producer.

“Over 10 years and five movies, we’ve been able to shoot the best actors, the best stunts, and the best goddamn car chases.

“On a personal note, as the child of Asian immigrants, I’m proud to have helped build the most diverse film franchise in cinematic history.

He continued: “I will forever be grateful to the amazing cast, crew and studio for their support, and welcome me into the FAST family.”

No further details were shared about why Lin decided to step down.

In total, Lin has directed five Fast and Furious films, including The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift 2006, Fast & Furious in 2009, Fast Five in 2011 and Fast & Furious 6 in 2013.

He’s also part of the team behind the most recent installment of the series, Fast and Furious 9, which was released in June 2021.

It was originally going to be launched a day earlier but faced lengthy delays due to the Covid pandemic.

Marvel star Brie Larson was also recently announced to join the cast of Fast X, while it was also reported that Aquaman actor Jason Momoa would join the project.
