If you are into fashion or celebrity, you probably know that Monday was the Met Gala. Supposedly a fundraiser for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, it’s actually a chance for celebs to wear the fanciest outfits and for us plebs to sit in court.

This year Ireland was represented on the red carpet with aplomb by Nicola Coughlan, whose star has skyrocketed thanks to her pivotal role in the Netflix series Bridgeton. It’s been incredible to see how she’s gone from being a regular Galway girl to friend of Kim Kardashian and fashionable It girl over the past few years. It’s especially nice to see an average sized woman having a big fashion moment. I applauded happily as I saw her and the handful of other women of average to above average height walking the red carpet at what is arguably the world’s biggest fashion event, but I was also a little jealous. People like us don’t have that moment often.
