FC Copenhagen vs Manchester City LIVE: Champions League latest results and goal updates with Erling Haaland rested

Can’t compare Haaland to Messi – Pep

Manchester City can qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League if they beat FC Copenhagen tonight. Pep Guardiola’s men currently sit at the top of Group G with a perfect record of three wins from three games and if they manage four out of four they will secure a place in the next round of the competition.

City are in superb form and come into play after sweeping aside Southampton 4-0 on Saturday, but Guardiola will have one eye on the future. His side play nine games next month (including today’s game) and if they can qualify for the Champions League round of 16 tonight, the last two group games will offer an opportunity to rest and change players.

The odds are certainly in their favor after their latest performance in this competition was a dominant one-sided affair against today’s opponents. It ended in a 5-0 win at Etihad last Wednesday as Erling Haaland continued his flawless form with two goals before Julian Alvarez and the struggling Riyad Mahrez also scored from a Davit Khocholava own goal.

Follow the action as Manchester City travel to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in the Champions League:

RED CARD! Copenhagen 0-0 Manchester City

28 min: More VAR action now. This time it’s a check for a possible red card against Man City’s Sergio Gomez.

Hakon Arnar Haraldsson squeezes in front of City left-back on his way into the box and Gomez comes over to stop him. He grabs Haraldsson’s right arm and pulls it back before stumbling forward.

After watching the replay, the referee jogs back onto the pitch and sends Gomez off for thwarting a scoring opportunity. City have shrunk to 10 men!

SAVED! Copenhagen 0-0 Manchester City

25 min: Riyad Mahrez is the man who takes the penalty and deflects his left-footed shot to the left of the goal. It’s a perfect height for Kamil Grabara to leap to the right and push him wide off the post!

Great save from the Copenhagen goalkeeper!

Penalty for Manchester City!

Copenhagen 0-0 Manchester City

17 minutes: it’s over! A corner for Copenhagen is magiced into the box and misses everyone but rolls towards goal. Ederson extends his left hand and bats the ball from six yards before being properly cleared by Man City.

NO GOAL! Copenhagen 0-0 Manchester City

14 minutes: Rodri’s start is ticked!

There was a VAR check for a potential handball leading up to Rodri’s goal and the replays show the ball was stripped from Riyad Mahrez’s right hand after Cancelo’s cross was cleared.

It was an intentional handball, but under the new rules it is a handball anytime the ball touches an attacking player’s hand in goal setup.

The referee is called to the monitor and then overturns the goal.
