Fergal Harkin confirmed as sporting director of Standard Liège

Donegal native Fergal Harkin is leaving Manchester City for a new role in Belgium as he was today confirmed as Standard Liège’s new sporting director.

Arkin, who played Harps and Bohemians for Finn, had been a City staffer since 2009 and in his most recent role oversaw City player loan operations. Standard Liège, keen to revise their setup after a disappointing season, have signed the 45-year-old.

“I am grateful to City Football Group for giving me the opportunity to work for them for 13 years. I’m proud to have been part of a group that has made great strides during this time,” Harkin said on the club’s website.

“I am now looking forward to starting this new adventure and I am very much looking forward to accepting the challenge Standard de Liège has presented me to achieve the goals set by 777 Partners.

“I want to get the club back to the level it should be in Belgian football. The passionate fans should be able to be proud of their club again.”
