Fern Britton said moving from ex-husband Phil Vickery was difficult after the couple split after 20 years of marriage.
Fern and TV chef Phil stunned fans when they announced in January 2020 that they were separating after more than two decades together, and in a joint statement they said they “will always share a great friendship.”
The former This Morning presenter has been open about life after divorce, telling woman&home in an interview that the “rebound” has been difficult and not as easy as people said it would be.
“People say they’re recovering from a long relationship, but it takes a while. The rebound is difficult. You throw the pebble into the pond, but the waves last a long time,” the 64-year-old mused.
“It’s been a long time to get to dawn but I’m in another brand new chapter and I have a feeling it’s going to be good,” Fern added, as she said she has a “more peaceful life” now and Enjoying yoga, meditation, and walking, which she described as “self-care.”
The TV star, who recently completed her 10th novel, said she’s now in her 60s, having a great time and speaking her mind.
“When you’re 60 you’re like, ‘You know what? I can’t be a***. I may say so,” she laughed.
Fern also reflected on her appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in 2012, where she teamed with Artem Chigvintsev and was eliminated in week five.
But while she made headlines for indulging in racy routines with the Russian professional dancer, she was overjoyed at pushing boundaries and “trying things out.”
However, she said she quickly realized that she was “not really a performer” but enjoyed the Strictly experience because she “wasn’t afraid to fail.”
Fern and Phil shocked fans when they announced their split two years ago, and she said last year the divorce had been “tough” to deal with.
“I’ve had two or three bad years. Both of my parents have died, my beloved cat has died and sadly my marriage has died too,” she told BBC Breakfast.
“It was a difficult time, but we’ll get through it. And it’s all right. There is life after,” shared the mother of three.
The May issue of woman&home will be available on April 7th
