The Testarossa was launched in 1984 and soon became a cult classic of the decade, even starring on the hit TV show Miami Vice.

The iconic sports car also appeared in Martin Scorsese’s Wolf of Wall Street.

At the top of the collection is the 1996 model – one of only 501 of its kind.

Powered by the legendary 12-cylinder Testarossa engine and boosted to 434hp, it is valued at up to £263,000 and is the most valuable of the collection.

The 1992 Ferrari 512 TR has 422 hp and can reach 310 km/h with its V-12 dry sump system.

The Pininfarina-designed model is expected to fetch up to £219,000.

The 1987 Ferrari Testarossa ‘Monodado’, meanwhile, features 16-inch wheels with a motorsport-style ‘single-groove’ design only offered on select variants of the model.

The 1986 Ferrari Testarossa ‘Monospecchio’ is considered the collector’s item with the highest value thanks to its characteristic design.

These cars, fitted with the only high-mounted mirror, were designed as such based on an interpretation of European regulations at the time.

It is expected to reach £158,000.

Last in the lot is the 1989 Ferrari Testarossa, which features an open-gate gearbox mated to the 4.9-liter flat-12 Ionic mid-engine.

Auction house Sotheby’s estimates it to be worth £132,000.

The Black on Black Collection will be on display at the Lake Como auction house’s Villa Erba sale in Italy in May.

Sotheby’s car specialist Stephan Knobloch said: “We are delighted to have handed over this remarkable Ferrari collection.

“As a brand synonymous with the color red, black Ferraris are not only fewer in number, but it is also a color that gives Ferrari cars a very utilitarian look.

“For me, a black Testarossa is the ultimate specification and these five cars represent a very rare opportunity.”
