Ferris Bueller star Edie McClurg, 77, has dementia and her lawyers are fighting to get a man who lives with her out of her home.
In documents filed Tuesday as a request for a restraining order, McClurg’s attorneys said Michael Ramos claims to be McClurg’s “longtime friend” and “was able to insinuate himself into (her) life while she was battling dementia.”
McClurg’s team wrote that Ramos was unemployed and “was able to sneak his way into[McClurg’s]house even though he never paid rent or expenses.”
The complaint also alleges that Ramos tried to get McClurg, who is under a conservatory, out of the state of California “to marry her when he knew she lacked the ability.”
A 2019 court order ordered Ramos not to go through with the wedding but allowed him to continue living with McClurg, according to documents.
The complaint says the two were “never romantically involved” and that a McClurg caretaker filed a criminal complaint against Ramos, accusing him of assaulting her “on more than one occasion” at McClurg’s home.
According to the complaint, the caretaker also reported that she was concerned that Ramos “either attacked[McClurg]in a similar manner or may be currently attacking, and given her diagnosis of dementia, she may not even realize it happened or is happening.”
The complaint went on to say that even when Ramos is not abusing McClurg, his presence “is causing severe emotional distress and distress.”
Ramos’ attorney denied that he was abusive to the caretaker or McClurg.
“These are false allegations brought by Ms. McClurg’s conservator and her attorney, who are dedicated to overturning orders from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge allowing Ms. McClurg’s longtime companion/fiancé to continue at her to live at home,” Estelle & Kennedy said in a statement. “Despite the seriousness of the allegations, we are not aware of, and do not expect to have, any criminal charges pending against this individual.”
Last month, McClurg’s legal team filed a motion to remove Ramos from the property following the caretaker’s allegations. In his response to the petition, Ramos denied molesting either woman.
“Angelique Cabral (McClurg’s restorer) wants me removed from the residence and is using sheer lies and speculation that I have harmed or could harm Edie and that is a lie I cannot live with and must defend ‘ Ramos said in his reply. partially. “I didn’t harm Edie McClurg and I wouldn’t harm Edie McClurg.”
In 2017, according to court documents, McClurg’s doctors determined that she “was unable to manage her own affairs because of severe cognitive dysfunction, is unable to live alone without supervision and help, and because of her… poor judgment is particularly vulnerable to undue influence and overt dementia (probably due to Alzheimer’s disease). In February 2019 she was then placed under a conservatory.
McClurg’s legal team declined to comment.
Ramos is next scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on August 25 for the preliminary injunction trial.
McClurg has a long and varied résumé in Hollywood. She has appeared in famous films such as ‘Carrie’ and ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ and television classics such as ‘The Hogan Family’.
