EA is removing Russian teams from FIFA 22 and NHL 22, in response to the invasion of Ukraine.
In tweets posted simultaneously from the two games’ accounts, EA Sports revealed that it will remove both the national and club teams from both games.
The moves are designed to reflect the decisions of the real-life international federations of both football and hockey, which also excluded Russia from many tournaments during the war.

FIFA will remove the Russian national team and all Russian clubs from not only FIFA 22, but also FIFA Online and FIFA Mobile. “We are also actively evaluating changes related to other areas of our game,” the statement continued.
The NHL will not only eliminate Russian teams, but also Belarusian teams, potentially involved in Belarus’ tacit support for the Russian invasion. “We stand with the people of Ukraine and join voices around the world calling for peace,” the statement concluded.

It’s another example of strong support for Ukraine in the games industry, which has seen studios pledge support for philanthropy, mass fundraising from people with influence, etc. Ukraine today asked the developers to go further and temporarily stop supporting games in Russia altogether.
Several humanitarian aid organizations are now accepting donations and supporting their efforts to help Ukrainians affected by the war. These include:
- Save Children: Currently providing humanitarian aid to children.
- UNICEF: Provide emergency supplies and safe water to communities, as well as care for children on the ground and those separated from their families.
- Project HOPE: Send medical supplies and provide healthcare to refugees.
