FIFA 23 manager career mode: The best teams for a fun yet challenging game

The MANAGER career mode has received a major update in FIFA 23, including the choice to use real managers like Steven Gerard or Jurgen Klopp.

While FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) remains the most popular mode of FIFA 23, Career Mode has increased in popularity due to the latest changes.

However, with over 700 teams to choose from, it can be difficult to figure out which one will give you the right challenge.

It will be too easy for experienced players to take on an established team like 86-rated Paris Saint-Germain or 85-rated Manchester City.

These are the top five teams we recommend for FIFA 23 manager career mode if you’re up to the challenge.

5. Brighton & Hove Albion – Premier League

transfer budget: £43,092,490.

Star Player: Leandro Trossard (79), Lewis Dunk (79), Pascal Gross (77).

If you want to stay in the Premier League then Brighton & Hove Albion is our team of choice.

Former manager Graham Potter has now joined top side Chelsea, leaving behind a team with great potential.

They’re available for European competition qualifiers when FIFA 23 launches, so there’s a big chance of making it big.

While the budget isn’t impressive compared to other teams in the league, it does give you some wiggle room when it comes to building your team.

The Seagulls will present a nice challenge and with some good results and smart transfers they can be taken to glory.

4. Paris – Ligue 2

transfer budget: £6,163,674.

Star Player: Lamine Gueye (71), Moustapha Name (70), Vincent Demarconnay (70).

Paris Saint-Germain dominates French football while Paris FC is in Ligue 2.

They have only been promoted to the first division once in the last 40 years and therefore have a lot of potential.

The goal of the game here is to bring Paris FC back to Ligue 1 by getting promoted and building a title-winning team.

They start on a small budget, but with a priority on winning Ligue 2, it’s certainly manageable.

Once you’re in the top division, use your leadership skills to earn a bigger budget, increase the club’s value, and secure the title.

3. AFC Richmond – Rest of the World

transfer budget: £32,325,422.

Star Player: Jamie Tartt (84), Roy Kent (83), Dani Rojas (82).

Rest of World is an understatement here as AFC Richmond hails from the hit TV show Ted Lasso.

You can even play as Lasso himself in Nelson Road while trying to manage your fictional team.

AFC Richmond can play in any league, but if you want to follow the canon, replace a team in the English Premier League.

Players have been generously rated, and star player Jamie Tartt has a potential rating of 91 if you can develop him.

You start with a decent budget, which means you can field some real players to help Richmond reach the top.

Hamburger SV – Bundesliga 2

transfer budget: £11,713,216.

Star Player: Sonny Kittel (73), Daniel Heuer Fernandes (73), Robert Nesta Glatzel (73).

Hamburger SV is a historic club with an impressive number of titles.

They peaked in the 1980s by winning the UEFA Champions League but have fallen down the ranks and are now firmly in the 2nd Bundesliga.

However, local support remains strong and the team have the impressive 57,000-seat Volksparkstadion to boost their revenues.

They finished third in the 2021/22 season, giving them the potential to get promoted to the Bundesliga.

Despite the small budget, some key decisions could help Hamburger SV return to the Oberliga.

1. Grimsby Town – League 2

transfer budget: £1,649,536.

Star Player: John McAtee (63), Anthony Glennon (63), Harry Clifton (62).

For those who really want a challenge, Grimsby are the lowest rated team of England’s four teams.

Grimsby Town are the team of choice for those wanting the true Park to Premier League experience.

The transfer budget may be tiny, but you can attract new talent cheaply by properly managing your youth academy.

Getting Grimsby Town to the top is a challenge in FIFA 23 that is not for the faint of heart. Overnight success is definitely not guaranteed.
