FIFA 23 pays artistic tribute to Pele after his death

EDSON Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, died yesterday (December 29) after a battle with cancer.

Recognized as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Pelé is the only player to have won three World Cups.

He led Brazil on their way to the World Cup lead, with the country winning the tournament a total of five times.

Alongside the many others paying tribute to Pelé, including Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi, FIFA 23 released its own artistic tribute.

The official FIFA 23 Twitter account posted a drawing of the player in his prime alongside the message: “The King of the World’s Game.

“Obrigado, Pele.”

Obrigado is Portuguese for “thank you”, Pelé’s native language.

Pele’s FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) cards are among the most popular in the game, boasting impressive ratings ranging from 91 to 98.

They are extremely rare cards to get, however, and are currently being sold on the in-game transfer market for around 2-7 million FUT coins, approximately £5.7k-19.5k ($16.9k-$23.5k).

What will happen to his card after his death is currently unknown as EA Sports’ deal with Pelé’s estate will determine whether he will be able to use his likeness.

In the past, deceased players like Maradona had their cards removed from the game.

Fans are asking the developers to create an in-game tribute to one of football’s greatest players of all time.

There are many ways that FIFA 23 could honor Pele’s memory with in-game tributes.

Players can participate in FUT Moments, which showcase standout events from a player’s life.

A new FUT moment starring Pelé would be welcomed by the fans.

Most fans would love to play with Pelé to see his skills in action once again.

This could be via a Pelé loan card or by introducing a new limited-time Pelé card in FIFA 23.
