FIFA 23 Ultimate Team: Giving Fans More of What They Want

FIFA’s Ultimate Team (FUT) is the most popular mode in the game from EA Sports, so of course it returns bigger and better in FIFA 23.

In the online live service mode, you can search for better players – or pay real money – to build the best team you can imagine.

FUT is a big moneymaker for EA Sports, so it’s invested a lot of time and money to get it just right.

We interviewed Line Producer for FUT, Michael Barnucz, who revealed: “We look forward to delivering more of what the fans want in FUT 23.”

There are a whole host of additional features including a brand new single player mode being introduced to FUT.

Here’s the rundown of everything that’s new.

player chemistry

The chemistry system that ties your team to their playstyle has been completely overhauled.

Barnucz said: “The new chemistry system will really help unlock squad building to give players more flexibility throughout the year.

“A new system allows your favorite players to share chemistry no matter where they are on the pitch.”

In theory, this will make building your team easier than ever.

You’ll be able to put a few players on a team who don’t have chemistry, even if they don’t have any connections to the other players.

It doesn’t matter if they’re from a different league or nationality, they’ll fit right in.

Perfect positioning

The new chemistry system is perfect for updating with position changes.

You don’t have to spam cards and mess up their chemistry to put a player in a different position.

The FIFA community has long requested the ability to change a player’s position, similar to how their real-world counterparts adjust on the pitch.

A generic pose shift consumable with a secondary pose is now available.

While the position changes are being revised, the custom tactics remain the same.

Many icons and heroes will return to FUT 23 and a whole host of new players will join them.

In fact, the FUT Heroes list has doubled, and those who pre-order will get Yaya Touré, Park Ji-sung and Ricardo Carvalho as bonuses.

We don’t yet know how they fit into the teams, but we’re hoping the new players will help shake up the meta.

Barnucz claims there is value in adding Heroes to your teams.

He said: “Icons and Heroes will give teams a valuable boost and open up team building, always playing with full chemistry when played in position.

“They contribute two player points worth of chemistry to their nation for icons and to the league for heroes.”

It seems that EA Sports is hoping that more players will try to add more heroes and icons to their teams.

Crossplay Extension

Play with more friends than ever before.

Despite the lack of crossplay for Pro Clubs and Volta Football, cross-console matching has been confirmed for FUT Rivals, Online Friendlies, Champions, FUT Play A Friend and FUT Online Draft.

Those playing via PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Google Stadia or PC can enjoy a match together, while PS4 and Xbox One users can also share their fun

Unfortunately, if you want to play Rivals or Squad Battles with a friend, you still have to play on the same console.

Transfer markets will also be available on most consoles.

Barnucz says: “The transfer market will be shared between PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Stadia. The PC transfer market is separate, as is that for Nintendo Switch.

“With the combined transfer market there will be a greater volume of content for players to engage with and more opportunities to bid on the items they want.

“This is especially beneficial for players on platforms with fewer players.”

Casual game

The biggest change to FUT is that EA Sports is introducing a single player mode called FUT Moments as a “new way to play FIFA Ultimate Team”.

This will appeal to those who are short on time and just want to dive in, earn coins and progress.

With a quick restart, you can earn stars and even play challenges as many times as you like.

In this mode, you can now explore the career progression of your favorite players in real scenarios.

Barnucz is confident that the new mode will offer something for all types of players.

He says, “Moments will offer a tremendous variety of scenarios for both experienced and new players, and they can toggle the difficulty to earn more star rewards. ”

Hypermotion2 hype

In our preview, it was the new Hypermotion2 technology that really sold the look and feel of FIFA 23.

The trait and ability changes are something else to consider when building your newest team.

Barnucz hopes to move away from the old meta and build something completely different that’s new and fresh for players.

Gameplay producer Sam Rivera agreed, saying the changes will bring a “more refreshed experience where it’s not just the same meta.”

It’s not just the animations and general graphical overhaul, there are more customization options for your stadium than ever before, with big, animated tifos and more pitch trophies.

The World Cup is coming

EA Sports has partnered with the World Championship to bring the men’s championship to the game this winter.

This will be the first mid-season World Cup and could impact promotions like Team of the Year.

Barnucz couldn’t confirm if the World Cup will work the same as it did in FIFA 18, when there were separate FUT tournaments that offered big rewards for the main game.

But it is also confirmed that the Women’s World Cup will come to FIFA in the summer of 2023.

Overall, the changes to FUT should shake up the meta for hardcore fans while still having something to offer casual gamers.

FIFA 23 will be released on September 30th, but those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition can get their hands on it three days early on September 27th.
