FIFA 23 will not feature Russian clubs or the national team

EA Sports has confirmed that FIFA 23 will feature neither Russian national teams nor Russian clubs in the game.

The company previously removed all mentions of Russia from FIFA 22 following the invasion of Ukraine.

This change was also implemented after the game’s release.

Speak with EurogamerA spokesman for EA confirmed that the ban on FIFA 23 will remain in place.

The explanation is:

“EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and joins so many voices in the world of football in calling for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine.

“In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, EA Sports will not be adding the Russian national team or Russian clubs to FIFA 23.”

The studio has revealed more about the upcoming game over the past few weeks.

Frenchman Kylian Mbappé will return as cover star for the third year in a row.

He will appear in both the Ultimate Edition and as the global face of the Standard Edition.

Chelsea’s Sam Kerr will also appear on the cover of the Ultimate Edition alongside Mbappé.

She will also get her own Standard Edition cover in Australia and New Zealand.

This alternative cover will also be available worldwide through Amazon.

A recent trailer for the upcoming FIFA game revealed yet another inclusion of women’s football.

The Women’s World Cup will be playable for the first time in the series.

FIFA 23 will also expand its list of women’s clubs.

One of the bigger announcements is that cross-play will be available across different console brands.

PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Google Stadia owners can play together no matter what console or hardware they own.

Though more limited, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fans can also experience cross-platform multiplayer.

As announced yesterday, the Standard Edition of FIFA 23 will be playable from September 30th.

Those who purchase the Ultimate Edition can play three days early on September 27th.
