FIFA reveal details of £189m payment for World Cup stars

Albion have received an idea of how much they will receive from FIFA for their World Cup-called players.

The Seagulls could have eight men in Qatar next month.

FIFA is distributing more than $200 million to clubs whose players are taking part in the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

The game’s global governing body confirmed details of its club benefits scheme on Tuesday, announcing that $209m (around £189m) had been set aside.

FIFA understands the scheme will mean a payment of US$10,000 (just over £9,000) per player for each day they stay with their national team at the World Cup itself and during the official preparation period.

The more participants a club has and how far each of those players get in the tournament will determine the final amount a club can claim.

It seems likely that Albion will be represented by Ecuadorian trio Moises Caicedo (pictured above), Pervis Estupinan and Jeremy Sarmiento, Argentinian Alexis Mac Allister, Japanese Kaoru Mitoma, Belgian Leandro Trossard, Spaniard Robert Sanchez and Ghanaian Tariq Lamptey .

But ex-Albion players heading to the tournament could also be of financial value to the club.

Any club that a player was registered with in the two years prior to the World Cup is entitled to a portion of the daily payout.

At the 2018 tournament, 416 clubs from 63 countries benefited from the programme.

Clubs can submit claims digitally for the first time, according to FIFA.
