Fiona Brennan on living on purpose: Turn that goal into reality with positive visualization

Welcome to the fourth week of Conscious Living. Perhaps you’ve heard the word “manifest” used in popular psychology a lot lately, and you might have dismissed it as pseudoscience, which says that if you want something, you only have to think positive thoughts and it will appear. Keep an open mind though – manifesting is a powerful tool that deserves your attention.
Here is some solid research in the field of positive psychology that shows how an optimistic view actually shapes our reality. A study in the Financial Economics Journal shows how optimistic people tend to be more financially prosperous and to remarry when they divorce.
The definition of the verb ‘manifest’ in the Oxford English Dictionary is very simple: ‘to show something clearly, particularly a feeling, attitude or quality’. Living a life with intention and purpose also means showing something clearly and being specific about what qualities you want to portray.
The connection between manifestation and conscious living is significant. You are the GPS and compass of your mind, guiding and pinning you in the right direction. If you get in your car without knowing where you are going, you cannot expect to end up where you want. In order to manifest anything in your life, you must consciously create positive thoughts and feelings, and then take positive action to turn an idea into reality.
The most important part is to focus on the positive feeling that comes from realizing your future goal in the present moment. It is this feeling that spurs action. Through repetition, you create neuroplastic changes and transform states into traits.
It’s common sense that if you want to accomplish anything in your life, it must be created from a place of faith and strength, not doubt and weakness. For example, let’s say you want to start your own business in 2023. However, you are filled with negative thoughts and fears, convinced that the business will fail before it even begins. This negative feeling also manifests itself, but unfortunately the other way around. Without a clear idea that the business is going to be a resounding success and the emotional state it will create, you will find that both you and the company are struggling. faith counts.
Manifesting relies on a positive visualization of the goal to be accomplished. At a subconscious level, your brain will filter the world to find ways that match the vibrancy of your ideal self, living the life of your dreams, and how that feels. It’s an internal process, and the external rewards are simply perks.
The cult classic The obstacle is the way, written by Ryan Holiday in 2015, has become a household phrase and is worth remembering as you implement your goals. Whatever you choose in life, it will have many twists and turns, and rather than giving up, it’s important to find opportunity in every hurdle. Manifesting and the pioneering work of Carol Dweck, who coined the term “growth mindset,” are also linked. The idea of focusing on effort rather than results is paramount to resilience and maintaining new positive habits.

Always start with micro-goals that lead to the overall goal and hold yourself accountable for it. For example, if I have dreams of buying a house abroad but am not yet financially able to do so, I can book a trip to the country where I want to buy and spend time exploring the area explore and socialize.
If I allow myself to feel energized by the dream, I will start finding practical ways to increase my income and save money to make it happen sooner rather than later. As Thomas Eddison once said, “If we did all the things that we are capable of, we would literally amaze ourselves”. Whatever you want to create, don’t wait. Don’t fall into the “If I…” trap. For example, “I’ll start a yoga class when I have more time” or “I’ll get a new job when the kids are older.”
Most people wait far too long before taking steps. Perfection is the enemy of action and many people hesitate to wait for the “perfect time” – it doesn’t exist. The beginning does not have to be radical, small steps count. When you start, a dynamic of its own often follows. For example, you can take an online yoga class that motivates you to join a studio, or you can retrain for a new job part-time so that when the kids are older you’ll be ready to start a new career .
let’s practice Actions always speak louder than words. This powerful manifestation practice will help you visualize your ideal self now. Remember that manifesting is co-creating with the power of intention and action, backed by a deep belief in your ideal self.
- Choose one of the destinations, whether personally or professionally what you want to achieve.
- Imagine it’s January 2024 and you made this happen – that new house, gentlemen, that book deal you dreamed of – it’s yours.
- Begin to experience the feeling of accomplishing that goal NOW.
- Soak up the positive feelings. Imagine yourself standing under a shower and allowing the feelings of accomplishment to flood your whole being.
- Pay special attention to how it feels to be standing in your new house, going to your graduation, or meeting with your publisher.
- Write down all the details. The clearer you imagine that, the better. Do not hold back. Can you imagine the aromas, the feel of the furniture and the expressions on people’s faces?
- What are your thoughts now that you’ve made it? Write these down too.
Notice how your confidence builds as you continue. Cultivate a sense of gratitude. Hold on to the positive energy and start using it to take practical steps. Remember that the inner emotional state catapults the motivation to turn that idea into reality.
As I write this series to take you into 2023, I want to instill in you the belief that you deserve to live your life to the fullest, whatever that means. For some it may be a wild adventure and for others creating more peace in everyday life.
Whatever you want, I’m manifesting success for you now. I see clearly that you are giving the time and love you deserve to live a meaningful life on purpose. I believe in you. But what matters is that you believe in yourself. Never underestimate yourself and the importance of your life.
