Fire protection firm Writech creates 50 jobs in Mullingar

Westmeath-based fire protection company Writech is looking to create up to 50 new jobs at its new €2m design and innovation center in Mullingar.

The company has also acquired Swedish fire protection company Ce Sprinkler, which employs more than 30 people, it announced on Tuesday.

It is the company’s second acquisition in the last month, following its takeover of British firefighting company Compco, which added 200 employees to the group.

Writech supplies and installs fire protection for some of the largest pharmaceutical, retail, data center, office and food and beverage companies in the world.

The company’s new design and innovation center will add more than 16,000 square feet to Writech’s existing facilities, will be spread over three levels and include a fitness center, design and project innovation suites, offices and meeting areas.

Secretary of State for Trade Promotion Robert Troy officially opened the center on Tuesday, saying it will “continue to fuel” Writech’s international growth.

“Crucially, this expansion and growth overseas will create 50 new quality jobs in Mullingar.

“I’m delighted to see a company with such strong roots in Westmeath continue to grow in strength and I’m sure it will continue to do so in the future.”

Writech Chief Executive Ted Wright said the opening of the new center is “the culmination of a vision we had many years ago of building a world-class operation here in Mullingar, leading the industry in Ireland, Europe and beyond and will change”.

“I’m also excited to welcome Ce Sprinkler’s team to the group,” he said.

“The company is an excellent addition to the group and opens up further opportunities in new markets as we continue to expand our reach and prospects for future growth across Europe.

“We look forward to sharing our collective expertise and building on our strong position and past successes.”

Writech’s growth is being supported by Dublin-based investment firm Waterland Private Equity Ireland, which invested in the group last year.
