Fire truck blocked by parked Mercedes Benz in Petworth

A “reckless” driver blocked a fire truck by parking his Mercedes Benz on double yellow lines.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Services were called to an incident in Grove Lane, Petworth, last Thursday evening.

But the crews could not get around the corner of Middle Street into Petworth High Street.

Petworth Fire Station wrote: “We attended an incident at Grove Lane last night.

“Unfortunately, due to reckless parking on double yellow lines, we were unable to get the unit to the incident.

“Fortunately, this time it was a false alarm.”

One person said the fire department should have moved the “offending vehicle with the fire truck” to teach them “not to block the road”.

Another woman added: “Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more common in our small town.

“I’m glad it was a false alarm. The result could have been so different for each rescue service.”

Another man said it “happens all the time” at this point.
