Firefighters at the scene of the major fire in Houghton near Arundel

AT LEAST six fire engines are at the scene of a major fire covering 370 hectares.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Services were called to the fire at 4.30pm this afternoon.

Several specialist vehicles are on site at Houghton near Arundel.

A fire service spokeswoman said: “We are currently dealing with a fire at Bury Hill, Houghton.

“There are about 150 hectares of crops on fire and we have six fire engines, six ATVs and two water carriers on site.

“There is a lot of smoke in the area. So if you live nearby please close your windows.”
