FIREFIGHTERS were called to two large “runaway” bonfires that had spread to bushes alongside the A27.
Two fire engines and an SUV were called to the fire near the A27 Sompting bypass at 7.13pm last night.
The West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said there were no injuries.
A spokeswoman said: “Upon arrival the crew found two large runaway bonfires affecting hedgerows.
“The fire brigade used two high-pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire.
“Firefighters stayed on site to seal up and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no other hotspots.
“Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident.
“The crew left the scene at 8:24 p.m.”
